History

The Department of Industrial Design, which has been operating under the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Eskişehir Technical University since 2018, was originally established in 1999 within the Anadolu University School of Industrial Arts. After admitting its first students in 2000, the department built a robust foundation for university-industry cooperation through strategic partnerships with private firms, local governments, and non-governmental organizations—a focus that has since become the cornerstone of its applied education model.

During its formative years in the early 2000s, the department’s academic structure was enriched by guest lecturers and professional designers from both academic and practice-based backgrounds. This inclusive approach enabled an active and continuous interaction between the department, other universities, and industry practitioners.

In 2013, the School of Industrial Arts was restructured as the Faculty of Architecture and Design, integrating the Department of Industrial Design and the Department of Fashion Design with the Departments of Architecture and Interior Design. Following the institutional division in 2018, the Faculty transitioned from Anadolu University to the newly established Eskişehir Technical University, where the Department of Industrial Design continues its academic and educational activities today.
